How I hope

. . .that the not knowing stuff gets easier. I feel so lost . . .

I have a saying on my desk that says "Most things are difficult before they are easy." This seems to be my mantra these days.

I need to be more gentle with myself, to remember that most people don't know it all, and that it is ok to say I don't know.

I need to find the confidence, and I need to do it soon. I will be successful, damn it. I will.

Goodness, girl, give yourself a break! Here is a timeline that holds true in almost every situation.

When you start a new job, whether it a brand new job/company or a promotion or a lateral change:

It takes about 90 days to learn the mechanics. Sure, you know the essentials sooner, but to really k.n.o.w the job mechanics.

You spend the next 90 days, give or take, making the mechanics work as they should. It is part of the learning curve, and the most challenging for most of us. You know what you know, but sometimes it just seems like everything doesn't always fit together as it should, function the way you know is the way it is supposed to. Putting the knowledge to work isn't always easy, because there are the unpredictables that we haven't prepared for, leading to lots of frustration.

The next six months is when you begin making it all function well. You've learned the mechanics, how to apply the mechanics, and now you're finescing it all into productivity. This is a good period, and most of us experience a lot of fulfilling moments. At the end of this time, approximately a year after you've begun the new you, you finally feel ownership. You recognize that you really own your job.

Beans, you are in that first stage, and just barely. You have a great storehouse of knowledge that you bring to the job, but at this time, the job still owns you. Relax and let it happen. It will, but you can rush it only so much. Confidence? You have it, but it is hidden under the need to be instantly successful! :)

Hello darlin. The first step in being successful in anything you do, is getting into the mentality of knowing that you will be successful. Once you start telling yourself that you will be, you'll start to believe it, and then it will just fall into place. The answers to everything is inside of you, you just have to push on through any doubts and realize that all they are... are doubts. They aren't reality, they're just inside your head. I'm sure you'll do fine, and I'm glad to hear that you had a better day today! I'm going to start following your blog, if that's alright with you!
